🎨 Hailsham Festival Children’s Art Competition 2026 🎨
A huge thank you to all of our talented students who submitted artwork for this year’s Hailsham Festival Children’s Art Competition. The standard was incredibly high, and with only six pieces allowed to go forward to the next stage, choosing was no easy task!
👏 Congratulations to Keerthana, Quinn, Filips, Jack, Abbie and Jasmine, whose artwork has been selected by our Art Department to represent our school.
This year’s competition themes are: 🦖 Prehistoric World – celebrating the Hailsham Festival’s 20th Anniversary and the dinosaur puppets that will be roaming the town during the Street Festival on 5 September. 🌳 The World Around You – inspiring young artists to showcase the beautiful places, landmarks and landscapes that make Sussex and Hailsham special.
We are incredibly proud of every student who created artwork. Their creativity, effort and enthusiasm have been outstanding. 💙
All final submissions of artwork from children across Hailsham will be displayed in a free public exhibition at Gallery North, Hailsham High Street, from 5–20 September 2026, with selected pieces then going on display at Froggies Café at
Knockhatch Adventure Park until Summer 2027.
🏆 Prize winners will be announced at the Hailsham Festival Awards Ceremony on Saturday 12 September, 2–3pm, at Gallery North.

🌟 A Huge Congratulations to Lola in Year 7! 🌟
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the kindness and generosity of one of our Year 7 students, Lola.
Lola's family have shared with us that she has just had an amazing 14 inches of her hair cut off to donate to Little Lady Locks, a charity that creates wigs for children experiencing hair loss using donated hair.
Not only has Lola made this thoughtful donation, but she has also raised £150 to support the charity's work. As it can cost up to £500 to preserve donated hair and create a wig, every contribution makes a real difference to the lives of children who need this support.
👏 Well done, Lola! You should be incredibly proud of the difference you are making to other young people. 💜

🏃♂️💙 Hailsham Academy Boys' Charity Race 2026 💙🏃♂️
On Thursday 16 July, Hailsham Academy Secondary Phase proudly held its fourth annual Boys' Charity Race, bringing together students, staff and supporters to raise money for an important cause.
This year, we were honoured to be running in aid of Charlie's Promise, a charity that the Academy has been proud to support over the last couple of years following inspiring talks delivered by the charity's founder, Martin Cosser. The charity's work to educate young people and families about the dangers of knife crime and promote positive choices continues to have a lasting impact on our school community.
Over the past four years, our Boys' Charity Race has raised thousands of pounds for a number of worthy causes, including Movember, Orchid and Out of the Blue. We are delighted to share that this year's event has already raised an incredible £1,342.00 for Charlie's Promise.
A huge thank you goes to all of the students who took part, the staff who supported the event, and everyone who has donated so far. Your generosity is making a real difference.

🧮 Year 10 Maths Study Day at Brighton i360 🌊
On Thursday 16th July, a group of Year 10 students travelled to Brighton for an exciting day of Maths workshops. Throughout the day, students demonstrated fantastic MARK values, embracing a series of challenging activities with enthusiasm, resilience and determination. The first workshop in particular pushed students out of their comfort zones, covering topics they have not yet encountered in their GCSE studies, but they rose brilliantly to the challenge.
After the workshops, students enjoyed a talk from one of the engineers behind the iconic Brighton i360. They learned all about how the tower was designed, constructed and operated. Did you know that the Brighton i360 is the tallest slender tower in the UK? Students were intrigued to discover the engineering solutions used to ensure the structure remains stable, even during strong winds.
The highlight of the day was a trip in the glass viewing pod to the top of the tower, where students were treated to spectacular panoramic views across Brighton, the South Downs and the English Channel. Even those who were slightly nervous about heights thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
It was a fantastic day of learning beyond the classroom, giving students the opportunity to see how mathematics and engineering are applied in the real world.

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their residential trip to PGL Windmill Hill last week!
Despite the very hot weather, pupils approached every activity with enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles. From abseiling and zipwire to Jacob’s Ladder, archery, orienteering, Aeroball and Passport Around the World, they showed courage, teamwork and determination throughout.
There was also time for friendships to grow, birthdays to be celebrated, songs and laughter around the campfire, and lots of special memories to be made.
Our staff were incredibly proud of how well the children represented the school, with their positive attitudes, kindness and excellent behaviour praised by the PGL instructors.
A huge thank you to all the staff who made the trip possible, and well done to our amazing Year 6 pupils for making the residential such a success!

💗💜💙 Primary Phase Race for Life 2026 💙💜💗
We are so proud of all our Primary Phase children who took part in our Race for Life event in support of Cancer Research UK on Friday. Despite the hot weather, they showed fantastic determination while staying safe and hydrated throughout the day. The children looked fantastic in their pink, purple and blue mufti, and the glitter, colourful accessories and funky hairstyles added to the fun atmosphere of the day.
A huge thank you to our families for their support and donations, to Miss Newman and the Hailsham Academy Ambassadors for helping to make the event such a success, and to our Primary PTA for providing a well-earned ice pop for every child. 🍦
Across the Secondary & Primary Phases our current total raised is now an INCREDIBLE £5,688.05!!! 🎉
This is all thanks the incredible generosity of our school community, thank you so much!
A special congratulations goes to the 11 Secondary Phase students who independently raised amazing amounts of money. They have received fundraising certificates and Cancer Research UK pin badges in recognition of their fantastic efforts. An extra mention must go to Emmie (Year 7) who raised £700, Ruby (Year 9) who raised £320, and Poppy (Year 7) who raised £260 – our highest individual fundraisers this year.
Well done, everyone, on a memorable day for a wonderful cause! 🎗️🏅

🎨 Artist of the Week 🎨
Our artist of the week this week is Sophia in Year 7 for her piece 'Dino Sunset'.
Chosen by Mr Lawrence he says 'I was enchanted by Sophia’s prehistoric painting. The whole scene has been painted with clarity and positivity, using a bold, bright colour scheme. The Diplodocus looks quite charming and I can imagine this character as the star of their own series of illustrated children’s stories'.

🎲⚔️ Warhammer School League Success! 🏆🎨
On Thursday 9th July, our Warhammer Club travelled to Warhammer World in Nottingham to compete in the Age of Sigmar School League Finals – and what a day it was! 🚍✨
Warhammer Age of Sigmar is a fantasy tabletop strategy game where players build, paint and command their own armies before competing against other armies for control of objectives in the mortal realms. 🌍⚔️
Across three challenging rounds, nine students from Hailsham Warhammer Club competed against schools from across the country, split into Veterans and Recruits categories.
The opening round proved tough, with mixed results across the team. 💪 In round two, players were matched against opponents with similar records, leading to an all-Hailsham showdown as both Joshes in the Veterans category faced off against each other! 🤝⚔️
After the final battles, students enjoyed exploring the incredible displays and gift shop before gathering for the awards ceremony. 🏰🎉
🏅 Our award winners included:
⭐ Oakley – 2nd Place Overall (Recruits), winning all his games and only missing out on 1st place on points difference.
⭐ Parker– Favourite Opponent Award 🏆

🏆 Silver Success for Hailsham Academy! 🏆
We are delighted to announce that Hailsham Academy has achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year. This national award recognises schools' commitment to developing participation and competition in sport across our schools and the wider community.
This achievement reflects the dedication of our students, staff, volunteers, leaders and officials, who have helped make school sport such a success this year. From netball and football to athletics, swimming, gymnastics and the Hailsham Primary Cluster, our students have competed with enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the year.
A huge thank you to our PE Department and School Games Organiser, Liz Price, for their commitment to providing outstanding sporting opportunities for our young people.

🏃♂️☀️ Sports Day 2026 at Hailsham Academy Secondary Phase ☀️🏃♀️
What a fantastic day of competition, teamwork and school spirit! Students from Years 7–10 gave their all across track and field events, earning points for their mentor teams while demonstrating our MARK values throughout.
Throughout the day, students competed in a range of field and track events showcasing their athletic abilities in the javelin, shot put, discus, long jump, 800m and 200m. All students demonstrated determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout.
The whole school then came together in Period 5 for the eagerly anticipated 100m sprint and relay races. These events created a fantastic atmosphere, with students and staff cheering competitors on and supporting their mentor teams from start to finish.

Wow… what a show! 🎶✨
On Wednesday evening, our Secondary Phase Music Summer Showcase took place, and what an incredible evening it was!
Our audience was treated to an outstanding display of talent from across our school community. From stunning vocal performances and beautiful piano and flute solos to duets, bands, our fantastic staff choir and staff band, every performance showcased the dedication, confidence and musical ability of our students and staff.
The evening ended on a bittersweet note with the final performance from our amazing Year 11 band, Photo Reference. Over the past five years, they have made a lasting impact on our Performing Arts Department through their hard work, commitment and passion for music. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and wish them every success in the future—you will be greatly missed!
A huge thank you to ChristChurch for hosting us and for all of the support provided throughout the day.
Finally, thank you to our wonderful Performing Arts Department and every student who dedicated so much time and effort to rehearsals. Your hard work made the evening such a memorable success.
