Year 6 PGL Windmill Hill Residential Trip
HOT, HOT, HOT! That was certainly the theme of our fantastic three-day residential visit to PGL Windmill Hill from 8 - 10 July. Despite the soaring temperatures, the children embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles, making the trip a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Throughout the residential, pupils took part in a wide range of exciting activities that tested their courage, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Many children pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones during abseiling, showing great determination as they overcame their fears. The zipwire was another firm favourite, while Jacob’s Ladder encouraged teamwork, communication and trust. During orienteering, children demonstrated excellent navigation skills, while archery required patience and focus. Aeroball brought plenty of laughter and healthy competition, and the engaging Passport Around the World activity encouraged collaboration and fun.
Alongside the organised activities, there was also some wonderful downtime. It was lovely to see how much the children have matured, with friendships strengthening and everyone showing kindness, inclusivity and respect. Whether playing games, chatting or simply spending time together, the children represented the school beautifully and made the most of every moment.
We were also delighted to celebrate two birthdays during our stay. The birthday children were made to feel extra special as everyone enthusiastically sang “Happy Birthday” - not just once, but as many times as we could get away with! These celebrations added even more smiles and happy memories to an already fantastic trip.
The evening campfire was another highlight, bringing everyone together for songs, laughter and reflection after busy days packed with adventure. Although there was plenty of excitement and chatter in the accommodation each evening, after all the activities and fun, even the most energetic children were exhausted and eventually went to bed, ready for the next day’s adventures.
The staff were incredibly proud of how the children conducted themselves throughout the visit. Their behaviour, manners and positive attitudes were praised by the PGL instructors, and they proved to be excellent ambassadors for our school. The residential provided valuable opportunities for independence, confidence-building and personal growth, creating memories that will last for years to come.
A huge thank you to all the staff who made the trip possible, and congratulations to our amazing pupils for making PGL Windmill Hill such a tremendous success!
