Hailsham Academy is a growing all through school. Currently this includes pre-school, reception and Years 1-6 at our Primary Phase site and Years 7-11 at our Secondary Phase site. We aim to be inclusive by working towards an ethos of quality first teaching. Our mission is to inspire a passion for learning that will form the foundations for successful futures. With learners who believe they can achieve the very best they can and aspire to secure pathways to higher education or employment; developing as well-rounded individuals who are positive ambassadors for the school.
Welcome
On behalf of the students, staff and governors at Hailsham Academy, welcome to our website. We invite you to browse these pages and learn more about our vibrant, high achieving and aspirational learning community.
The school is striving for excellence in everything we do. Our motto, ‘Ambitious for Excellence’ is very simple but encapsulates everything we believe in for students and staff alike.
Hailsham Academy became a converter academy in 2012. Converter academies are successful schools that have chosen to convert in order to benefit from the increased autonomy academy status brings.
In September 2019 we became a 2-19 all-through academy and we welcomed our first Reception aged children into our brand new primary school. As the school grows, children will eventually be able to join our Pre-School at two years of age and leave at 16 at the end of Year 11. Children who join us become members of Hailsham Academy and will move from Pre-School, Primary and then into Secondary through seamless transition between the age phases.
In September 2025, we were delighted to join MARK Education Trust. Working alongside our partner schools, we continue to retain our unique identity while benefiting from the collective strength and collaboration of the Trust. This partnership enables us to share best practice, build on excellent teaching and learning, enhance leadership capacity, and provide even greater support for our students.
At Hailsham Academy, we place relationships at the heart of everything we do. Our staff are ambitious for our students, know them well, and ensure lessons are personalised and inclusive. We are committed to nurturing happy, successful, and confident young people by combining academic excellence with a focus on wellbeing, social development, and the skills needed for life beyond school. Our curriculum is broad, balanced, and knowledge-rich, designed to foster curiosity, develop passions, and inspire lifelong learning.
Our community is guided by our MARK values: we expect all members of our community to make their MARK by being motivated, articulate, resilient and knowledgeable, as well as demonstrating manners, acceptance, respect and kindness. These values are evident in the excellent relationships that exist across our school – between staff, students, parents, carers, trustees and the wider community.
We welcome the opportunity to show visitors around, so please do get in touch if you would like to know more about life at Hailsham Academy.
About our All-Through Academy
Vision
- Our curriculum for our students is rightly ambitious – it is as broad as it is balanced. It has a strong academic core which, where relevant, includes vocational and technical ambitions and wide-ranging choices in key stages four and five. Our curriculum maximises educational opportunities and prepares our students to be socially and academically successful. It is expertly planned and implemented. Subsequently they develop keen interests, a lifelong passion for learning and an impressive, coherent, and cumulative understanding of the world. All of this means that they consistently achieve highly and are prepared for future success and happiness in education, employment, or training.
- We have uncompromisingly high expectations for the quality of education that our students receive, including the most disadvantaged and those with SEND. There is no room for complacency.
- We support and encourage our school community – we expect everyone to make their MARK academically by being motivated, articulate, resilient and knowledgeable, and socially by having excellent manners, being accepting, respectful and kind. These core values and expectations are reflected in the exceptional relationships that exist between our board of trustees, staff, students, parents, carers and the wider community.
- We recruit, retain and develop exceptional staff and trustees to ensure that through every aspect of their experience of Hailsham, our students are inspired, engaged and challenged, enabling them to make excellent progress and attain well. This includes our most disadvantaged students and those with SEND.
- Our staff care deeply – each day they strive to be positive role models, thus supporting the inclusive culture of our school environment. Our staff want our students to feel safe and happy and listened to, academically, socially and in terms of their well-being. We have a culture that is highly aspirational and ambitious for excellence in all we do, where commonalities are identified and celebrated and that differences are respected, accepted, valued and nurtured.
- As staff we model what we want to see from one another and our students – we promote and expect a positive and motivated commitment to education from our students and their parents and carers.
- Our standards are unapologetically high – this applies to both our staff and students, thus enabling our teachers to teach and our students to learn and excel in their time at Hailsham Academy and beyond.
