Welcome from the Headteacher – Secondary Phase

Welcome to Hailsham Secondary Phase, part of Hailsham Academy, an all-through school serving approximately 1,500 students in the Secondary Phase, 420 pupils across our Primary Phase and approximately 40 children in the Pre-School.
In September 2019, we opened a brand-new primary school approximately a mile from our secondary site, extending our provision to an all-through school. This growth reflects our commitment to serving our vibrant and diverse community and providing an exceptional education for all our students.
I was appointed Headteacher for the Secondary Phase in June 2023, having been part of the Senior Leadership Team since 2014. This has given me the privilege of knowing our school and community extremely well. Our students are remarkable young people, and they deserve the very best education we can offer. Since our last Ofsted inspection in March 2023, the Secondary Phase has undergone significant positive changes, including a revised leadership and pastoral structure, a renewed focus on high-quality teaching, and robust curriculum implementation.
In September 2025, we were delighted to join MARK Education Trust. Working alongside our partner schools, we continue to retain our unique identity while benefiting from the collective strength and collaboration of the Trust. This partnership enables us to share best practice, build on excellent teaching and learning, enhance leadership capacity, and provide even greater support for our students.
At Hailsham Secondary Phase, we place relationships at the heart of everything we do. Our staff are ambitious for our students, know them well, and ensure lessons are personalised and inclusive. We are committed to nurturing happy, successful, and confident young people by combining academic excellence with a focus on wellbeing, social development, and the skills needed for life beyond school. Our curriculum is broad, balanced, and knowledge-rich, designed to foster curiosity, develop passions, and inspire lifelong learning.
Our community is guided by our MARK values: we expect all members of our community to make their MARK by being motivated, articulate, resilient and knowledgeable, as well as demonstrating manners, acceptance, respect and kindness. These values are evident in the excellent relationships that exist across our school – between staff, students, parents, carers, trustees and the wider community.
