Languages

In our global society, it is increasingly important for all of us to have a better understanding of people from different backgrounds and cultures and to be able to communicate effectively with them.

The main aim of the MFL department of Hailsham Community College is to foster a love of leaning foreign languages by exploring new and exciting cultures.

We encourage all students to explore language learning outside of their lessons. There are a number of excellent resources available online. We particularly recommend the following:

–       Duolingo (a free languages learning resource, which can also be downloaded as an app).

–       Quizlet (used in lessons on a regular basis, but excellent for independent work).

–       Linguascope (please ask a member of the MFL team for log-in details).

–       Mary Glasgow Magazines (a subscription magazine with online resources).

Students in Years 7 and 8 study either French or Spanish. They remain in their teaching groups for languages lessons.

From year 9 pupils have the option to continue to GCSE with the language they have studied.
