Who are High Prior Attainers and Talented students?
HPA students at Hailsham Academy achieve a mean scaled score of approximately 107 in their KS2 Year 6 Standard Assessment Tests (SATs)
SATs assess student’s ability in reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and maths.
HPA students can also be identified using Year 7 Cognitive Ability Tests (CATs).
CATs assess students’ verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning ability.
Talented students are those who develop their skills to a particularly high level. They may show particular ability in Drama, Performing Arts, Sport, Music, Dance, Art or an academic subject.
Talented students are identified using teacher nominations and include approximately 2.5% of the student population at Hailsham Academy.
Aims
The primary aim at Hailsham Academy is to:
Maintain a culture and ethos that champions the needs of High Prior Attainers and Talented students.
Help HPA and Talented students to flourish and leave school with the best qualifications.
Provide first-rate opportunities for HPA and Talented students to develop the skills, confidence and attitudes needed to succeed at the best universities.
Find ways of discovering and promoting hidden talent.
Raise awareness among staff, governors trustees and students about the needs of HPA and Talented students.
Encourage, support and evaluate the progress of HPA and Talented students.
Support and guide HPA and Talented students into higher education, including prestigious universities.
