Sixth Form Consultation

21st July 2025

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and our local community,

Re: Consultation on the closure of Sixth Form provision at Hailsham Community College

Following our recent letter regarding the planned closure of our Sixth Form provision from September 2026, we are now launching a formal consultation process to gather views from students, families, staff and the wider community.

The purpose of the consultation is to gather views and to understand possible unintended consequences of the decision.

We recognise the significance of this decision and want to ensure all stakeholders have the opportunity to ask questions, express support or concerns and contribute constructively to the process. While the decision by the Interim Board of Trustees reflects extensive analysis and careful consideration, we are committed to hearing your feedback and exploring any potential unintended consequences.

Consultation timeline and how to participate

The consultation period will run from Monday 21st July to Wednesday 17th September 2025. Please see our consultation booklet for the rationale behind the planned closure of our sixth form provision. Please note, this decision will not affect students who are currently in year 12 and moving into year 13.

During this consultation, we invite you to share your views via an online survey to help us gather structured feedback on the decision. We ask that you read our consultation pack, in full, before completing this form.

What happens next?

All responses will be reviewed and considered carefully by the Interim Board of Trustees and the school’s leadership team.

Throughout this process, our commitment remains to support our students in making informed, successful transitions beyond Year 11. We will continue to work closely with local post-16 providers to ensure a wide range of high-quality opportunities remain available.

While this is a difficult moment for us all, it reflects our commitment to the long-term success and stability of our school. We remain entirely focused on delivering high-quality education and look forward to shaping our next chapter as we become the third school in the MARK Education Trust – strengthening our culture, enhancing our provision, and working together to realise our shared vision of being an exceptional school for our community.

We thank you again for your engagement, support and understanding.

Yours sincerely,

Rob Wakeling

Deputy Headteacher
