Year 7 Boys Football CUP match report
Hailsham Academy progressed to the next round after a thrilling encounter against St Catherine’s.
We started strongly, opening the scoring through Emin, who made a driving run through midfield and calmly finished into the bottom corner. St Catherine’s responded after being awarded a penalty for a handball in the box, converting to level the score at 1-1.
From that point, Hailsham played some of their best football. Two well-delivered corners resulted in goals: a powerful header from Ollie and another from Lewis, giving us a 3-1 lead. Just before half-time, Jenson showed great composure to finish from inside the box, making it 4-1 at the break.
The second half saw both teams make changes, and Hailsham focused on managing the game. However, St Catherine’s mounted a late comeback. With five minutes remaining, their midfielder scored from distance to make it 4-2, and then, in dramatic fashion, they scored directly from a corner to bring it to 4-3. Fortunately, that was the last kick of the game.
A fantastic team performance and a well-deserved win. Hailsham Academy are now in the draw for the next round!
