Primary Pupils enjoy storytelling visit from Sussex author
To celebrate World Book Day, pupils at Hailsham Academy Primary Phase were delighted to welcome Sussex storyteller, Helen Tozer, for a special interactive reading session arranged in partnership with Barratt Homes.
During the session, which formed part of a week of World Book Day celebrations at Hailsham Academy Primary Phase, 120 Key Stage 2 pupils listened as Helen read The Lorax and shared a series of ecology-themed folk tales. The children were encouraged to think creatively about the environment, storytelling traditions and the power of imagination.
Katie Piggott, Teaching and Learning Lead at Hailsham Academy Primary Phase, said, “Our pupils really enjoyed the storytelling session, and it was lovely to see their excitement as the story unfolded. Workshops like this are a great way to inspire a love of reading and spark their imaginations.”
Helen Tozer also commented, “Storytelling is a fantastic way to spark curiosity and encourage children to explore books. It was great to see how engaged the pupils were throughout the session and I hope it has kickstarted a new passion for reading.”
Barratt Homes organised the visit as part of their commitment to supporting literacy in local schools. Phil Hurring, Marketing Manager at Barratt Redrow Southern Counties, said, “Reading plays a fundamental role in the development of young children. As we create new communities at Cuckoo Fields, it’s essential that local pupils are given the chance to recognise its value and nurture a lasting love of reading.”
Throughout the week, Hailsham Academy pupils explored stories, authors and the joy of reading through a range of creative activities.
